Jane Hall, along with Alex Floro and Belinda Sullivan from Outrigger Australia, as well as friends from Southern California have just completed the 2017 pailolo Challenge in Hawaii under the name of ‘pacific Aunties’ in the SMW 50’s category. On behalf of the NSW zone I would like to congratulate the girls on their achievement!.
Jane and the girls rate this race as one of the ‘funnest’ on the planet.
Jane spoke with me from Hawaii saying that this race was pure downwind surfing fun!, the accompanying photos say it all!
The girls had a strong 25knot easterly and a six foot swell behind them all the way, yew!
The winning mens team raced it as 45km iron, finishing in a time of 2:27!!! Racing an unlimited lightweight canoe.
Janes crew finished in a time of 3:36, 3rd place behind the strong Kailua team who finished in a time of 3:29.
This race is a fun warm up to the Na Wahine O Ke kai, which Jane and her crew will race in this Sunday, no doubt you will all recall the photos from the breathtaking start of this race a couple of years ago!
Jane and the girls highly recommend the pailolo as a superb downwinder of which the co-ed/ mixed crews feature strongly.
On behalf of the NSW zone we wish Jane and the girls a safe and successful race this coming Sunday.
